WSET Diploma - Spirits Tasting (1st trial)
為了6月10日unit 4 exam spirit exam的緣故,考試三人組又再出動,之前搜索過的liqueurs剛好也大派用場。我就借用這裡,讓大家分享一下先前寫的tasting note。這次的課題主要是rum,再加兩支大家平日不常見的。
1. Bacardi Superior
Appearance
Clear and bright, water white and colorless
Nose
Clean with medium intensity of Orchand fruit (apricot), perfume, toffee, almond and solvent (varnish) aromas. It's unaged.
Palate
Dry with smooth alcohol, medium body and creamy texture, with a palate of vanilla, nutty, citrus fruit (lemon), herbal and smoky. It;s medium flavor intensity, medium length and some complexity
Conclusion
It is good quality with balanced structure and complexity, pure style of white rum with a good share of the raw material, well-balanced and reasonable finish. It's inexpensive.
2. Bacardi Gold
Appearance
Clear and bright, with a pale gold color
Nose
It's clean, with medium intensity of Orchard fruit (apricot, peach), orange peel, almond, toast, caramel. It's matured.
Palate
Dry with warming alcohol, medium body and creamy texture, with a palate of almond, caramel, ceder apricot and citrus peel
Conclusion
Good quality with balanced structure and complexity, a well-balanced of golden rum with reasonable finish. It's inexpensive.
3. Myers's Rum Orignial Dark
Appearance
Clear and bright, with medium mahogany color
Nose
It's clean, with pronounced intensity of citrus peel, caramel, nutty, toffee, fig and molasses. It's matured.
Palate
Dry with warming alcohol, full body and very creamy structure, with a palate of caramel, nutty, raisin, orange peel, apricot and molasses. It's medium flavor intensity, simple and short finish.
Conclusion
Acceptable quality without complex structure, and simple and short finish of dark rum.
4. Cachaca 51
Appearance
Clear and bright, water white and colorless
Nose
It's clean with medium intensity of cane, fig, burnt leaf, peppercorn. It's unaged.
Palate
Dry with harsh alcohol, medium body and creamy structure, with a palate of cane, burnt leaf, somky, cashew, cinnamon and caramel. It's medium flavour intensity, with simple medium finish.
Conclusion
Acceptable quality with simple structure, which does not possess a balance of alcohol and finish of Cachaca

5. Bols (Kirsch)
Appearance
Clear and bright, water white and colorless
Nose
It's clean with light intensity of honey, almond, cherry, almond. It's unaged.
Palate
Dry with warming alcohol, medium body and creamy structure, with a palate of honey, banana, cherry, almond and vanilla. It's medium flavour intensity, with simple medium finish.
Conclusion
Acceptable quality with simple structure, which does not possess a balance of alcohol and finish as almond flavor dominates. It's inexpensive.
6. Ricard Pastis de Marseille
Appearance
Clear, medium amber colour with louching effect
Nose
It's clean with pronounced intensity of botanical (angelica, anise, basil, rosemary), and mint. It's short aged.
Palate
Dry with warming alcohol, medium body and creamy structure, with a palate of vanilla, botanical (angelica, anise), mint, methnol. It's high flavour intensity, with very complex medium finish.
Conclusion
Good quality with moderate complexity, and reasonable finish of Pastis. It's standard price in the market.
